Cervo
One of Italy's most beautiful towns
Cervo is a town in the province of Imperia, on its eastward side. Ranked among Italy's most beautiful towns, it has ancient origins (it is believed that a prehistoric settlement was located in the area!). It became a roman stronghold in 181 B.C. and remained under its domain up until the fall of the Empire, in 476 A.D.
In medieval times the town declared its independence, and stayed so until 1330 when it became a domain of the Order of Malta. After numerous sieges at the hands of Saracenic pirates, interested in the coral trade...
This town is particularly appreciated for its suggestive beauty, with medieval towers and 16. century city walls, surrounded by the green hills of Liguria and by the sea.
